Sizzle sizzle *inhale* pause
The aroma of onions and garlic drew me to the kitchen
The kitchen: my sanctuary
The kitchen: where I find inner peace
The kitchen: Food
Not all kitchens are healthy
Not all kitchens are created equal
Knowing that oppression is alive in the kitchen
Made my blood boil
My body; consumed by the lack of accessibility to healthy foods
But easy accessibility to poison
Knowing that there was a lack of affordable organic food in my community
Made me want to revolt
My body needs nutrients
And I know how to get them
From community gardens
From farmers markets
From communities working together
From working with From Lot to Spot
a non profit organization that's committed to bringing green space equality to low income communities of color
That is why I propose to bring affordable organic vegetables from the Mckenzie Garden in Lawndale that I with my friends will grow
The community will have access to those vegetables
Through the farmers market on 147th
Through ECHS where families that need assistance will be provided assistance with our help
The community garden not only provides fresh vegetables
It provides a sense of safety
It is a defiant act against fast food oppression
It is YOU taking back your health
Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere
